An incredible story – one that I’d like to read – Diana Nammi and Karen Attwood are crowdfunding for the publication of the book “Girl With a Gun: A Teenage Freedom Fighter in Iran“.

More people should know about this inspirational journey, as told by Diana Nammi – to hear about her part in the Iranian revolution, her twelve years on the frontline and her fight to champion women’s rights.

Background: Aged just seventeen, Diana Nammi joined the now famed peshmerga fighting force to defend her community when Kurdistan was attacked by the new Islamic regime in 1979. Born in Kurdistan, Iran in 1964, Diana had played an active part in the Iranian Revolution to oust the hated Shah before the revolution was hijacked by the Islamists.

With Diana’s closest friends being executed one by one by the Islamic regime, and herself on the hit list, she fled with her young daughter to the UK. After her British translator was murdered in an ‘honour’-killing in Iraq and UK police failed to act, Diana set up IKWRO, the Iranian and Kurdish Women’s Rights Organisation, to campaign against so-called ‘honour’ based violence and to get these crimes recognised and prosecuted in the British judicial system.

Diana founded the charity Iranian and Kurdish Women’s Rights Organisation (IKWRO) in 2002.
