Instagram tip – text replacement
I’m my own worst enemy when it comes to instagram hashtags – I was always forgetting how many I could add, (it’s 30 – currently, who knows if that will change!) and missing off that one essential (yes, #sgiew!) so a kind soul told me about ‘text replacement’ – I can’t remember who it was, it was SUCH a long time ago… if it was you, holler!
And then, having a mind FULL of stuff, after setting it up for one of my client’s accounts, I completely forgot how to set it up for myself. SO – and this is what I tell all of my students, and interns, write it down!
Here you go… TEXT REPLACEMENT – iPhone.
You are creating a shortcode that you can type on your phone, and then your iPhone will “autocorrect” that code, into your long list of saved hashtags.
For example, I use #ps for my Instagram. When I type that in my iPhone then suggests my long list of hashtags as a replacement. Here’s how to do it.
Start in your Settings,
click General,
then keyboard,
and finally Text Replacement.
Click the “+” symbol in the top right to add your own.
In the Phrase section add all of your hashtags, in the Shortcut section add something simple but not something you commonly type here. This will prevent your phone from autocorrecting you every time you type in your business name.
So now, in instagram type your ‘shortcut’ and a space, and as if by magic – your saved hashtags will appear!!
I would suggest only saving x20 hashtags in here, to allow yourself room for movement 0n special days – like #fairtradefortnight or #throwbackthursday if that’s your thing!
