Dimmet Devon – a Seventies throwback staycation

Think 70s style, think seaside. Gorgeous refurbished holiday bungalow, five mins drive from Saunton Sands and an easy walk into Braunton – Dimmet Devon is perfectly located for a family holiday, or retro weekend away for two.

We have historically ‘celebrated’ special birthdays – with staycation weekends away for Grandad’s 70th, and eldest’s 13th a well known forest water park staycation; so as our youngest approached teenagedom (is that a word?) he pestered us to book something SPECIAL too. Both kids love the water, so a trip to the seaside was proposed, and maybe some surfing lessons thrown in for good measure?

Croyde – that’s the place to learn surfing right? And Croyde is REALLY close to this amazing 70s style bungalow Dimmet Devon – so that’s totally win-win!

We traveled down from London, a fair old drive granted, but we had a clear run and listened to podcasts from Adam Buxton (something for all the family!) so we were there in no time, picking up some supplies from the Co-op, and takeaway Fish and Chips in Braunton, for our Friday night supper.

Arriving in the dark of the night, we let ourselves in to Dimmet Devon bungalow – Emma, the owner, talked us through the booking and collecting of keys – all very easy – and wow we were all skipping around in WONDER at this amazing place – It’s seriously incredible, the furnishing, decor and detail – all wonderful – as you can see from the photographs – That chaise longue in the window – we were squabbling about who was going to sit (lie) on that!

Good morning and I’ll have to be quick as it’s it’s A BIRTHDAY Morning here so we’re about to do the pressie-opening – Happy Birthday to my youngest… we had a fab weekend celebrating with a stay down at @dimmet_devon and surf lessons with @surfingcroydebay and today is all about (we shall ignore the interruption of school) cake and home made pizza – so let’s get unwrapping! . . #littlestoriesofmylife managed to squeeze some seventies annuals into shot… so worth a #sgiew_bookworm right?! #sgiew #seventiesstyle #seventies #interiordesign #momentsofmine #littlelifestories #theartofslowliving #theyearinbooks

The styling at the bungalow is incredible – Emma has thought of everything, from the crockery to the books and records on the shelf.

And there’s a GARDEN too so we picked some gorgeous Hydrangeas to attempt to style up the already super styled sitting room – honestly – it’s all just divine.

Surfing was also incredibly easy to book, we had a group lesson (two adults, three kids) and what a total revelation a wetsuit is!! Warm as toast in the September sea – I will admit to being totally rubbish (dodgy shoulder, no strength to pull myself up onto the board) but the boys LOVED it, and were mini-experts by lunch time…

The cafe at Lyndon Wake has an amazing view of the bay (see below), and after a quick toasted sandwich we were back in the sea with bodyboards (go on, I’ll admit that was MUCH more fun for me).

All in all, a fabulous weekend away – thank you Emma, for being a terrific host, (the bed was so comfy I can’t tell you!) and we’ll be back again in the summer, with more time to have ‘a bit of a do’ (one of the wardrobes has some fun 1970’s fashion for dressing up time too!) and to enjoy that wonderful garden as well as more time beside the seaside.
