Today’s post features JulieMay Lingerie, discussing the need for lingerie made from natural materials
Ali Clifford writes: I recently discovered luxury lingerie brand: JulieMay and wanted to share with you here on incredibusy.com.
As someone who occasionally has eczema, and flare-ups of hives, I’ve always preferred natural materials, such as organic cotton, and have often found it tricky to combine comfort AND style in my undies… it seems that Tiffany Chiu’s brand JulieMay Lingerie perhaps has the answers.

Tiffany Chiu started the business a few years ago when her mother had just had a new baby. With her mother’s changing hormones, she started to struggle with allergies, and had rashes appear across her chest, and they found it hard to find lingerie that fitted her properly and didn’t irritate her sensitive skin.
Tiffany’s aim with JulieMay lingerie was to ensure everyone can find skin-friendly underwear that works for them in both style and comfort. Her plan was to provide equally beautiful AND supportive lingerie for people who suffer from skin allergies such as eczema and hives, from wearing synthetic materials.
She researched using organic Pima cotton, and for a more luxurious feel, the finest silk to soothe irritated skin; while ensuring everything we do is sustainable, fair trade and of the highest standard to protect our planet, the silk worms, and the people we work with.

JulieMay Lingerie materials are:
- GOTS* certified pima cotton which is a lower impact, sustainable material. (see video below explaining GOTS Global Organic Textile Standards)
- Fair trade mulberry peace silk (from silk worms munching on Mulberry leaves, peace silk worms are allowed to hatch from their cocoons, as opposed to the rather barbaric boiling you find with regular silk)
- There products are tested and accredited by Allergy UK for being free of common irritants such as azo dyes and nickel, as well as being low in formaldehyde.
- Using durable and natural materials also minimises waste in production processes by focusing on durable, long-lasting products. Each item is quality tested before it leaves the factory.
Ethical sourcing and Production:
- Manufactured in our exclusive production site in Hong Kong.
- The production atelier ensures that Hong Kong Living Wage** is offered for all of the JulieMay team – from the sewing machine, to the office.
- Each item is meticulously hand made by trained tailors, ensuring quality production and durability.
- Quality Management ISO9001 certification to verify resources, competence, awareness, communication and documented information.
- Water Efficiency ISO14001 certification to verify that they follow strict regulations to reduce negative environmental impacts by using water and energy more efficiently during the manufacturing processes.
- To verify an enhanced workplace health and well-being JulieMay Lingerie work within the Workplace Health & Safety 45001 guidelines, by providing a safe workplace and paying our workers fair living wages. Production is conducted under safe, fair and legal working conditions.

Destigmatising menopause, skin disease, body image and more.
If you follow @juliemaylingerie_uk on instagram, you will see the work they have been doing with menopausal women and people with Eczema, and Psoriasis – who have experienced the struggle to find lingerie that works for them in terms of avoiding irritating triggers such as non-breathable underwear, overheating, scratchy nylon edges, and irritating metals like nickel typically found in contemporary lingerie.
Almost 80% of women experience hot flashes and night sweats during menopause as I did myself before I started taking HRT.
So I totally welcome avoiding synthetic materials, and have been hunting for decent organic cotton lingerie, to help with keeping menopause hot flushes under control.
JulieMay Lingerie have been certified by UK Charity Allergy UK to be safe for sensitive skin and by Menopause Experts to be suitable for women experiening symptoms of menopause.
