Time to build A CAT THING modular cat cave
You may have already heard – we got a KITTEN!
And now he is seven months’ old and looking for new challenges. Cats like to climb (you may have noticed if you have one) – they like to get up as high as possible (if you follow me @incredibusy on instagram you may have seen my stories, where Kipper climbs up onto my shoulder as I’m working – crazy kitten. This is all well and good, until he tries to do the same with my work colleagues – who are not QUITE as endeared by this ‘dominant cat behaviour’ to be in the highest position in the room!
Cats also like small spaces, like shoe boxes, and behind doors (and under giant rhubarb leaves it seems too!) so we made a cute DIY cat cave from a cardboard box, and an old jumper – he loved this whilst he was smaller, and I kept it in my studio so that he could cosy up near me, which he seemed to like for a bit.
And then, Ronnie spotted this A CAT THING on instagram, and started saving… to be fair, they are actually incredibly affordable, ROOM COLLECTION BEGINNER PACKAGE (Set of 5)
RRP: £50 (€57)
Currently only £37 (€43 / $49)
HOWEVER – USE OFFER CODE ‘incredibusy‘ for an EXTRA 20% OFF – so it will be just £30 (€34))!

So we got chatting with the designers, who created this fantastic modular cat cave!
A cat thing is a series of styled cardboard boxes made especially for cats and their people. Founded in 2016 by a young architect couple in Taiwan, inspired by their cats Chacha and Lily. Their goal was to make a creative, stylish, and harmonious design that can fit in a modern living environment – and we love it!
We had fun building the modules, as you’ll see in our short movie below – the principles of origami were used to create connections that hold the different modules together.

All of the packaging and materials are recyclable and made of non-toxic materials. Sustainable, and friendly to our planet, a cat thing also strives to minimize the amount of materials used to reduce waste. For example, the joints used to fix the modules are cut from the same cardboard as the boxes, no plastics here.
You can see by the photos that as it’s modular, you can buy extra ‘rooms’ or ‘balconies’ to make it as BIG or small as you like…

ONE Minute to build A CAT THING modular cat cave (I’ll confess, it’s on fast-forward, but we did have a lot of fun building A CAT THING and Kipper the cat LOVED being involved too! His very own funky cat tree)

Katie Carr
This is such a great idea for cats. I love that you can adapt the sizes depending on the space it’s being used in. No plastic and it’s eco friendly is also so important. Love it.
Ali Clifford
Ah thanks Katie, I just found Kipper curled up on a little blanket in the bottom section – bless him!
We honestly love it, it’s a real talking point!
Abby Semple Skipper
I love it! Both the cat and the 5 year old love boxes. The beauty of these is they are actually something I would want in the house! 😀
Ali Clifford
That’s it totally Abby, they are really ‘good looking’ and well designed aren’t they?
I cringed at the idea to be honest, but once we saw this design, we were convinced to get one – AND they are quite affordable too!
Sim @ Sim's Life
That is seriously funky and I expect cats love to play in the cat cave… not a big fan of cats, though used to have a siamese who absolutely adored his cat tree and imagine he would have loved this too! Sim x
Ali Clifford
Hi Sim, oh we had a Siamese cat when I was a kid – he was called COFFEE and would have loved this too! Ooh, should I pop ‘cat tree’ into the keywords?! x
Sarah | Boo Roo and Tigger Too

I think my kids would love to do this, it looks a lot of fun and I bet the cats were in heaven. Mich x
Donna @ Little Lilypad Co
I LOVE this and think my cat would too! What a genius idea!
Ali Clifford
Hi Donna, honestly, Kipper adores it, he was reticent at first, but I keep finding him curled up in different sections of it! x
