What an amazing place – we went exploring in the ghost town of Campochiaro in Rhodes. We stumbled across this village a few years back when on a family holiday, trying to keep cool in the air conditioned car with two young boys not used to the heat of Greece in the summer.
The colours are just stunning, as we went from room to room – on reflection, perhaps not the best parenting in terms of safety but they will remember this forever!
It’s located in the abandoned village of Eleoúsa, Dhodhekanisos, on the island of Rhodes, Greece.
Now a Ghost Town, Campochiaro (Campo Chiara, now Eleousa) was built by the Italians during World War II (1935).
The surrounding forest apparently appealed in terms of the timber trade, however, during WWII it became a military base, with this building a sanatorium for tubercular children.
